Artfully Restored Bungalow adapted for today with Architectural Integrity

Perennial Gardens welcome family and friends to enjoy the large yard where living spaces inside and out have been carefully planned.  The front porch offers quiet reading corners surrounded by windows overlooking gardens where new flowers appear from the spring to fall.

Before this custom kitchen, the great flavors of the 50?s permeated this room.  In 1999, the wrecking bars came out of the basement to completely redo the kitchen.  The original floor and clear fir trim were protected and salvaged along the way.  New wiring, lighting and plumbing were all added at that time.  Hints of color from the past can still be found in the countertop and window treatments.  The changes made a very functional kitchen for a busy family.  The island serves as lunch, homework or appetizer space over the course of the day.  The maintenance free fibrex composite deck was added just after the kitchen was completed.  Throughout the year, it is an extension of the kitchen with a grill that is plumbed into the gas line of the house.  During the warm months, meals are taken on the deck regularly.

Sleeping Porch to Studio

In 1992 when the owners purchased this home, this Studio was an old sleeping porch.  It had light and character, but was not suitable as living space.  The windows dropped down into the walls fully exposing screens, but this meant the windows and walls had no insulation.  In 1993 the room was reframed, rewired, fully insulated and new casement Andersen Windows were installed.  The Art Glass was added at that time and is removable for cleaning.  The original design of these windows was first used by Frank Lloyd Wright in The Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL.  In preparation for an advertising shoot, the studio was painted by Apropos Studio of Minneapolis.  The room was featured in the Andersen Windows Advertising for The Frank Lloyd Wright Art Glass Collection.  Copies of the ads are on the desk along with the Certificate of Authenticity for the Art Glass.  Each window also has Mr. Wright?s engraved signature in the lower corner of the frame.  Morning light floods the hall through the glass doors and the windows cast amazing shadows across the room as the sun crosses the sky.
